Aromatherapy
The term Aromatherapy is used to refer to the use of essential oils for inhalation and bodily application. This is used to promote physical, emotional and spiritual well being and balance.
Essential oils are derived from plant materials such as leaves, bark, roots, resins, fruits and flowers. The most common method of obtaining the oil is distillation although some are pressed. True aromatherapy does not use synthetic substances.
For inhalation, oils are diffused into the air by various methods. Some oils contain anti-microbial, anti- inflammatory, anti-fungal properties. When inhaled, these oils have therapeutic effect on various body systems. They can also be applied to the skin to treat skin disorders, sore muscles, etc.
Care must be taken in the use of essential oils, especially when pregnant. Many oils must be mixed with a carrier oil to dilute them before they can be applied to the skin.
When properly used in the correct combinations, essential oils can facilitate both physical and emotional healing.
Aromatherapy is available with massage for an additional charge and must be requested when the appointment is made.
